Travel to School
Castle Hill Primary School is constantly working hard to ensure the children's safety including at the start and end of each school day.
To make school a safer place we ask that parents consider the following;
- Walk, scoot or cycle to school - Both campuses provide storage for scooters and bikes. The security of bikes and scooters is the responsibility of the individual and measures should be taken to protect against theft (e.g. a combination lock). The school does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to the bikes of scooters on the premises during the day or left overnight. Parents/guardians are advised to include bikes/scooters on their household insurance
- Park and stride - park further away from school and walk the last part of your journey (see attached map)
- Please do not use the Greenbank car park as a drop-off zone, this is for parking only
- When parking please consider the residents; do not block driveways, do not park close to junctions, and do not cause obstruction.
The Highway Code specifies:
Rule 243 - DO NOT stop or park:
- near a school entrance
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
Rule 224: Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs. Please adhere to this guidance.
As part of our commitment to promote walking to school, parking is available at the old community centre (unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control this facility is currently unavailable) and Winklebury Centre (for Greenbank campus) with safe walking routes to school which have been suggested by Hampshire County Council travel team (see Castle Hill Schools Park and Stride map below).
Parking Issues
There is now an online reporting service from HCC. If you have any parking issues connected to the school please use this system visit: https://www.hants.gov.uk/transport/parking/parking-contravention, this will help direct enforcement where it is needed.

School Transport - from September 2023
Over 90% of families in Hampshire organise their own journeys to school. They walk, cycle, use public transport, lift-share with other families or take their child to school in the family car. Have a look at our Travel to school page for ideas and information. Hampshire County Council can help with school journeys if you meet certain eligibility criteria outlined here: Eligibility and how to apply
If your child meets the eligibility criteria, and you need help getting them to school, you can apply now for transport assistance for the 2023/24 school
year. The sooner we receive your application, the earlier we can arrange transport ready for September. After 31 July 2023, applications will still be considered, however transport may not be in place in time for the start of the new school year.
If you already have school transport assistance in place for your child, you do not need to reapply for transport providing your circumstances haven't changed.
